About Les and Deb

Les a Union plumber in San Franciso, Ca. for nearly 30 years, when he retired, he began helping me with the training of the dogs. As our success in the field was being noted by others, folks started asking us to train their dogs. Together we trained over 350 gundogs for other folks and competed them in hunt tests, field trials and obedience competitions. Les also judges AKC Junior and Senior Hunt Tests and he continues to support the Montana FWP Junior Hunter Safety Program as an instructor.

After 10 years of being professional trainers we decided to retire and train only our personal dogs, and still do today.  We continue to enjoy the outdoors that training dogs provides to us. With our 50 years in raising, training and breeding dogs, our goal is to provide a quality working dog that meets the breed standard within looks, working ability and temperament.

I have always had dogs; my father was a Guide dog instructor and trainer.  We lived on the San Rafael, Ca. campus when I was a child. My parents also owned and operated several boarding kennels in Marin County. I worked at the kennels for the most part, and also was trained to be a dog groomer. I did grooming of mostly smaller breeds for over 12 years.  I had poodles, but also a Great Dane.

I became interested in Labradors when Les and I married, he had hunting experience and I started joining him.  We purchased our first Labrador in the 1980's from Canvasback Labradors in Petaluma. She became a show champion and obtained a WC (working certificate) in the field. Les took and interest and began showing her himself in the breed ring. Breeding her produced "Braemar Megan of Gerhart" who was the #1 bitch on Labrador Quarterly rankings in her 1st litter. She went on to produce several other Champions for us, Ellie and Reed, See our Show Ring page. All the dogs worked in the field. I am a AKC Hunt Test judge and have had the privilege of judging all 3 levels of the program, Junior, Senior & Master Hunt tests. Additionally, I've completed the Master National 12 times completed 2 Hall of Fame recognized dogs and been awarded the Women's Challenge Trophy on 2 occasions.

Bayside Labrador Retrievers has moved to Montana!

Les and Deb have sold their training facility in Red Bluff and have relocated to Three Forks, Montana. Our direction will be moving more into our quality breeding program. We will continue to train and compete our own dogs in field trials and hunt test. Therefore, we will have occasional started obedience and gundogs for sale.
